Kapil Sharma is well-known for his work as an Indian stand-up comedian, actor, TV host, and producer. His television show Comedy Nights with Kapil, which was first broadcast on Colors in 2013, is still remembered, but it was cancelled in 2016. In 2013, he was recognized as CNN-IBN's Indian of the Year in the entertainment category, and also made his debut on the Forbes India Celebrity list, ranking 93th in the list.

Early Life & Education
Amritsar, Punjab, India is the birthplace of Kapil Sharma on April 2, 1981 in his family's Punjabi Brahmin background. Jeetendra Kumar Punj, Jeetendra Kumar Punj's father, served as a head constable in Punjab Police, and his mother, Janak Rani, is a housewife. His siblings include Ashok Kumar Sharma, a police constable, and Pooja Pawan Devgan.
Kapil Sharma finished his education in Amritsar, Punjab, and was still committed to his academics even after his father passed away. While caring for his family, he also pursued his education, displaying early responsibility and resilience. Later, he enrolled at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, where he earned a Master’s degree in Arts (M.A.). During his college years, active participation in theatre and cultural activities helped him refine his performance skills and build stage confidence.
Career
Kapil started his career with comedy show Hasde Hasande Raho on MH One, but only gained recognition after he participated in India’s laughter hunt The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007, which he went on to win. Despite sending his audition tape for the show, it was rejected. Reapplying was the only way he was chosen to be a part of the show. Following his victory on the show, Kapil appeared on Sony Entertainment Television's Comedy Circus in 2010. He was involved in six out of eighteen seasons and took part in all of them.
Kapil's production house K9 Productions launched his own show Comedy Nights with Kapil on Colors in 2013. The show was able to become one of India's most successful shows and achieved high TRPs. Bollywood stars, such as Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, were present at the show to promote their movies. Kapil decided to take his show off-air and launch a new one called The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony TV because of channel issues. Kapil has been revamped, but the show's concept has not changed while keeping the same ensemble cast. His team has traveled to prime locations worldwide and across the country on tours.
Apart from participating in comedy shows, and having his own shows, Kapil has also hosted various TV shows like Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa’s sixth season in 2013 along with Manish Paul, and co-hosted the 60th Filmfare Awards in 2015 alongside Karan Johar. In The inauguration ceremony of Pro Kabaddi League's fourth season in 2016 also saw Kapil sing the Indian national anthem.
In 2015, Kapil debuted in Bollywood with 'Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon', then followed it up with 'Firangi' in 2017. He showcased his versatility as an actor through his appearance in Nandita Das's movie 'Zwigato' in 2023. He has been awarded multiple Indian Television Academy Awards for his contributions to entertainment, including Best Actor - Comedy.

Ginni Chatrath and Kapil exchanged their vows on December 12, 2018, in Jalandhar. They have two children: Anayra Sharma, who was born in December 2019, and Trishaan, who was born in February 2021.
