Born on January 12th, 1973, Sakshi Tanwar is an Indian actress and presenter with a focus on Hindi films and television. Tanwar is known for portraying strong-willed, unconventional women on Indian television and is considered one of the highest-paid actresses in the country. Two ITA Awards and one Filmfare OTT Award have been given to her, along with other awards. In 2012, she was recognized on Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list.
Tanwar made her debut on screen with O re Manva in 2006 and has since appeared in both Dangal (2016) and Samrat Prithviraj (2022) as a sports drama. Alongside her work in television, Tanwar received praises for the series — Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat (2017-2019), Mission Over Mars (2019) and Mai: A Mother's Rage (2022), the latter won her the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Actress Critics – Drama Series.

Sakshi Tanwar was born in Rajasthan, India on January 12, 1973, and is of middle-class background. Rajendra Singh Tanwar's father was employed as a CBI officer. Sakshi is related to an older brother and sister.
From a young age, she had a strong interest in the media industry, and she was also the president of the dramatic society during college. Sakshi was a student at Kendriya Vidyalayas. She enrolled at Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi and completed her studies there. Upon completion of her education, she aspired to enter the administrative service.
Career
Sakshi Tanwar started her television career in 1996 by hosting DD National's reality show 'Albela Sur Mela'. Subsequently, she was cast in the TV series 'Dastoor'. Her breakthrough came when she played 'Parvati Agarwal' in the highly popular TV series 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii'. Her portrayal of Parvati became a cult figure, and the show lasted for a remarkable 8 years.
Tanwar made her debut in 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii', and then went on to appear in a number of TV series, including 'Kutumb', 'Devi', 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin', and 'Balika Vadhu'. Her performance in Sony TV's 'Bade Achhe Lagte Hain' in 2011 was as 'Priya Ram Kapoor'. Tanwar strayed into hosting and narration, appearing in shows such as "Main Naa Bhoolungi," "Crime Patrol Season 2," "Code Red", and "Tyohaar Ki Thaali."
'Ore Manva' was Sakshi Tanwar's first film appearance in 2006. In 2008, the actress appeared in the movie 'C Kkompany' with Tusshar Kapoor and exhibited an impressive acting performance. In 2015, Sakshi played the lead role in the movie 'Mohalla' Assi alongside Sunny Deol and was praised for her outstanding performance.
In 2017, Tanwar made her first online appearance with Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat, portraying a doctor alongside Ram Kapoor. She made her television debut with Tyohaar Ki Thaali in 2018. In Mohalla Assi (2018), Tanwar played the wife of a priest opposite Sunny Deol, in Dial 100 (2021), and in Samrat Prithviraj (2022), she played the wife of a police officer opposite Ashutosh Rana.
She was a part of two web series in 2019. The Final Call, where she played an air controller officer, and M.O.M. - Mission Over Mars, where she played a scientist. In 2022, Tanwar played the role of a mother who was grieving and retaliating for her daughter's death in the Mai: A Mother's Rage series. Nandini Ramnath of Scroll.in stated that Tanwar, who was cast against type, interprets her character admirably to the best of her ability. Her saga of vigilante justice is filled with violence and profanity, but she adds softness and empathy. She received a nomination for the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series and was also awarded the Best Actress Critics Award in a Drama Series for the series.
Tanwar's performance in Sharmajee Ki Beti, a film centered around a coaching institute teacher, was in 2024. Monika Rawal Kukreja described her performance as 'earnest' and added that she achieves the perfect balance by emphasizing strength and vulnerability. The role of a royal queen in The Royals was played by Tanwar in 2025. Pallavi Keswani from The Hindu asserted that she contributes more despite her limited screen time.
